Vernica Nicole Phelps

Vernica N. Phelps was born February 26, 1985 to the proud parents of Darrie and Veronica Phelps in Gary, Indiana.

Vernica attended Aetna Elementary School, Marquette Middle School and graduated from Gary Wirt High School in June 2003. She continued her dream career in cosmetology at the Gary Career Center. She later followed her new career of nursing by attending the Cleveland Job Corps in Cleveland, Ohio.

Vernica brought into this world two loving children, Janea Hodge (deceased father Stacy Hodge) and Jeremiah Lister, both born in Gary, Indiana.

Vernica was baptized in Jesus Name at Zion Temple Apostolic Church in Gary, Indiana under Pastor Don Reynolds and received the holy ghost while in her youth.

Vernica developed physical complications in her young adult age, which eventually she sucummed too. Vernica departed this world on November 29, 2025, at 9:32 pm.

Vernica leaves to mourn her parents, Darrie and Veronica Phelps of Tucson, Arizona ( via Gary, Indiana); three brothers, Darnell L. Phelps of Schererville, Indiana, Damien C. Phelps of Cincinnati, Ohio and David V. Phelps of Tucson, Arizona; one sister, Val Linda D. Phelps of Tucson, Arizona and many other close relatives and Phelps\Jones\ Scott Family.

Some of her last words were; “I still believe God”.
