Todd Luther Strommen passed away unexpectedly and peacefully at his home in Tucson, Arizona on April 21, 2025. He was 72 and a cancer survivor.
Todd was born and raised in Rockford, Illinois where he excelled in school – high grades, musical talent, National Honor Society, and advanced math and science classes. He attended colleges in Minnesota and Ohio, then fled the Midwestern winters for the Arizona climate. He studied biochemistry, math, health and nutrition before completing a degree in Nutrition from the University of Arizona. Todd turned a part-time college job into a 35-year career working for the U.S. Postal Service in Tucson, Arizona. He retired in Tucson.
Todd was a favorite uncle to his nephews and nieces. He was kind, generous, fun and funny. He loved trips to amusement parks and watching movies. He had a remarkable memory of dialogue and scenes from his favorite films, which he could recall at a moment’s notice. Todd always had a wisecrack to make family members laugh or cringe and took pride in being overly generous in gifting his siblings’ children.
Todd was an attentive son to his parents, who retired in Arizona. He was the caregiver for his father after he broke his hip. Todd volunteered with Habitat for Humanity International on trips to Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic with his cousins and siblings. He constructed his own two-car garage and was in the process of a never-ending remodel of his small house. He enjoyed bowling, riding his bicycle, classic cars, most sporting events, and annual golf outings with his Arizona family.
Todd was preceded by his parents, Luther and Helen Strommen.
He is survived by five siblings, Mary Ellen Liebers (Mel), Christine, Jeanine Nesvig (Mark), Paul (Judith Leimer), Elizabeth Smith (David), nine nieces and nephews and fifteen grand nephews and nieces.
A memorial service will be held July 26.
