Robert P. "Duke" Bowers

Robert P. Bowers, affectionately known as "Duke," passed away on March 17, 2026, in Sierra Vista, Arizona. Born on March 28, 1948, in Blue Island, Illinois, Robert's life was a testament to hard work, dedication, and a love for the simple joys that defined his unique character.

Growing up in Blue Island, Robert graduated from Dwight D. Eisenhower High School, where he laid the foundation for his future achievements. His talent and passion earned him a football scholarship to Northwestern University, where he pursued both his athletic and academic interests in football and mathematics. These early years shaped a man who was as intellectually vibrant as he was athletically gifted.

Robert devoted his entire adult career to working as a crane operator in downtown Chicago, a role that showcased his steadfast commitment and expertise. His colleagues admired him for his stolid professionalism, but those who knew him well remembered his spirited personality. Known for a sharp wit and a persistent stubbornness, Robert was a man who never missed an opportunity to brighten a room with his humor. Always dressed to impress, his style reflected an eagerness to face the world with confidence and pride.

Beyond his vocation, Robert found joy in many pursuits. He was a skilled handyman who loved fixing things, an enthusiastic participant in train expos and clubs, and passionate about riding his motorcycle. His fondness for the shooting range and taking road trips spoke to his adventurous spirit, while evenings spent watching his favorite movies provided a beloved form of relaxation.

Robert’s life was enriched by his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert P. Bowers Sr. and Hilda Leiscke; his son, Michael Robert Bowers; and his siblings, Barbara and William. He leaves behind his beloved granddaughter, Kristina Marie Bowers, who carries forward his legacy.
