Nia Clark, a vibrant soul whose laughter and creativity brightened every room she entered, passed away on March 24, 2026, in Tucson, Arizona. Born on January 10, 1945, in the heart of the Bronx, New York, Nia’s life was a rich tapestry woven with love, humor, and an unquenchable passion for the arts.
Nia’s journey began in the bustling streets of the Bronx, where she graduated from a local high school before embarking on an adventurous chapter in San Francisco, a city that shaped much of her early adulthood. It was here that she cultivated her talents and intellect, earning a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Berkeley and further honing her skills with a Master’s in Social Work from San Francisco State. These academic achievements underscored her deep dedication to understanding and uplifting the human spirit.
Her life was marked by profound relationships and love. In her twenties, she was married to Duane Clark, and in her forties, to Norman Peat. Yet, it was with David Brown that she found her truest joy, spending over twenty years together in shared happiness and companionship. Though David has since passed, their bond remains an indelible part of her story.
Nia was known for her quick wit and a sense of humor that could lighten any mood; she delighted in crafting puns that brought smiles even on the toughest days. Her creativity knew no bounds—from quilting and drawing to painting and various crafts, she embraced the world of art with open arms and a keen eye, always aspiring to perfect her skills as a quilter. Her hands shaped not only fabric but also the warmth and beauty that defined her character.
After years spent in the artistic enclaves of San Francisco, Nia settled in Tucson for over forty years, becoming a treasured member of the community and nurturing her passions with steadfast enthusiasm.
She is survived by her devoted sister, Elaine Gottlieb of Florida, who shared a lifelong bond woven with stories and support. Elaine’s daughter, Michele Gottlieb of San Mateo, along with Michele’s children—two grand nieces Danielle, and Camille, and two grand nephews Dylan (Ashley) and Jake—carry forward Nia’s legacy of kindness and creativity. Also among those who hold Nia fondly in their hearts is niece-in-law Marion Gottlieb of Belmar, New Jersey.
Nia was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Louis Leonard Spivack and Ruth Spivack, as well as by her partner of two decades, David Brown, and her nephew, Stuart Gottlieb.
Nia Clark’s life was a vivid mural of love, laughter, and artistry. Her passing leaves a silence where once there was a sparkling wit and bright imagination. Yet, her creative spirit and generous heart continue to inspire all who had the fortune to know her. In celebrating her memory, we remember a woman who lived fully, loved deeply, and showed us all the true colors of a life well-lived.
