Martha Patricia Smith Pomeroy, affectionately known as Patsy, was born in 1941 in Ocean County, New Jersey, the first born child of Earl James Smith and Doris Audrey Monahan Smith (both deceased).
In 1957, Patsy married the love of her life, Donald "Donnie" Paul Pomeroy. They were married for 28 years until his passing.
She is survived by her cherished and devoted son, Donald P. “Skip” Pomeroy, Jr., and her daughter-in-law, Emily Irwin-Pomeroy. Patsy was instrumental in the raising of her two beloved granddaughters, Megan Elizabeth Pomeroy (Gregory Ryan Knuffman) and Emily Rose Pomeroy. She was also blessed with one great-grandson, Daniel Ray Knuffman, whom she absolutely adored.
Patsy was a loving and dedicated homemaker who found immense joy in the simple things: nurturing her beloved puppy, Baby Lamby; spending time tending to her yard in Tucson, Arizona; and dabbling in painting. Patsy’s truest expression of love was through her cooking. She was known for creating amazing, off the cuff recipes, of which she never wrote down. She will be fondly remembered for her generosity, selflessness, sense of humor, practical wisdom, and her legendary peanut butter chocolate pie along with the many feasts she prepared for frequent family gatherings.
She was the eldest of seven children and she was preceded in death by Earlene Smith Betterley, Carol Smith McDermott, and Rich Smith. Patsy is survived by her siblings Shelia Smith, Rodney Smith, and Danny Smith, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
Patsy had many other loved ones by marriage or choice that she considered to be family, including Judy Lea Irwin (deceased), Amy Ruth Irwin Ball (Michael Ball, deceased), Elena Ball, Ray Ball, Nathan Ball, Joshua Ball, and countless others.
Patsy was the deeply cherished matriarch of her large extended family, though her humility often meant she never fully realized her profound importance to them. She will be remembered for her cooking, sense of humor, caring heart, and practical wisdom! May her memory bring comfort to all who were touched by her caring nature and generous spirit.
Patsy was passionate about the well-being of children.
