Marlin Newton, fondly known as Newt, died September 4, 2024 in Tucson, Arizona. He was born December 22, 1937 in Leechburg, Pennsylvania to Charles and Jessie Newton. Newt grew up in Utica, Pennsylvania then attended and graduated high school in Franklin, Pennsylvania. While in high school Newt was in the Army Reserves. After graduation he joined the Air Force.
Newt spent four years in the Air Force, during which time he met Mary Hardin and they were married June 5, 1959. When he got out of the service Newt became a farmer, he also worked in the Polk County Mental Hospital. In 1974 he moved to Tucson where he worked as a mechanic at Cymet before working at the UofA in Arid Lands as a maintenance mechanic. This would be the job he retired from. After the passing of his wife, Mary, Newt met Carolyn Kateley and they were married June 3, 2003.
Newt spent a lot of his down time going to yard sales and swap meets, he was a collector and loved tractors. He was always finding things to tinker with and fix. Watching the humming birds was also a favorite pass time.
His kindness, willingness to lend a helping hand and love of talking meant he never met a stranger. Everyone was a friend.
Newt was preceded in death by his son; Ronald, parents; Charles and Jessie, brothers; Wayne and Charles, grandson; Kenneth Stephen and his first wife, Mary (Hardin) Newton.
He is survived by his wife; Carolyn, daughters; Barbara, Susan and Melissa, five grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
