Marie-Christine Catherine Allen, born on December 14, 1953, in Paris, France, died on March 19, 2026, in Tucson, Arizona. She lived a life shaped by music, intellect, heritage, and a deep devotion to the people and traditions she held dear.

An operatic performer and teacher of voice and keyboard, Marie-Christine brought discipline, artistry, and conviction to her work. She earned respect as a valued expert in her field, having crafted a self-defined identity grounded in talent, study, and purpose. Her professional life reflected not only her gifts as a musician and educator, but also her enduring commitment to uplifting others, a value inspired by her parents, both educators, whose legacy remained important to her throughout her life.

Preferring her middle name of Catherine later in life, her academic journey was a source of well-earned pride. She received her Bachelor of Arts in May of 1975 from Wellesley College in Boston, Massachusetts. In May of 1994, she earned her Doctor of Musical Arts with an emphasis on Vocal Performance from the University of Arizona - later returning to earn a Master of Education. These achievements marked important milestones in a life devoted to excellence, and they stood as lasting expressions of her determination, discipline, and love of learning, encouraged all along by the support of family and friends.

Beyond her formal accomplishments, Catherine was a woman of vivid inner life and expansive curiosity. She was passionate, introspective, dedicated, particular, imaginative, creative, confident, life-loving, and curious. She spent considerable time touring in her homeland of France, performing and maintaining a living bond with the place of her birth, family and friends. She embraced travel as a way to experience and learn the culture, art, music, cuisine and faiths of many regions of the world.

Among the accomplishments closest to her heart was her leadership in preserving and celebrating her family’s rich heritage and storied history. She authored detailed and regular publications connected with the many family reunions she attended over the years, gatherings she cherished deeply.

Catherine is survived by her brother, Jean-Louis, and by her nephew, Maxime. She also leaves cousins Alexander, Leslie, Sydney, Wesley, Mark, Danny, Monica, Alexandra, Clara, and Griffin. Their shared family bonds, sustained across years and miles, formed an important part of her life and of the history she so lovingly preserved. She is also survived by her cherished friend of many years, ChavivaYah, whose friendship and family held a special place in many chapters of her life journey. Her Congregation Beth Sar Shalom Sisterhood and those who joined her in faith played a key role in Catherine's celebrations of community and belonging at the onegim she so much enjoyed, as well as in her triumphs and through her tsuris. The family remains most grateful to those who embraced Catherine.

She was preceded in death by her father, attorney, professor and poet Samuel W. Allen, and her mother, antiquarian and teacher Jeanine Louise. Their influence as educators remained woven through her values, her achievements, and her generous dedication to encouraging others.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 29th, 2026 at 1:00 PM MST at Congregation Beth Sar Shalom (5455 S. Westover Avenue, Tucson, Arizona 85746).
