Luz Maria Guaydacan, a devoted mother, beloved member of her community, and a hardworking custodian at the University of Arizona for over two decades, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2026, in Tucson, Arizona. Born on April 22, 1935, in Magdalena, Sonora, Mexico, Luz’s journey was one shaped by dedication, love, and quiet strength.
Growing up in Magdalena, she carried the warmth of her homeland with her as she traveled between Sonora and Tucson until making Tucson her permanent home in 1959. There, she devoted herself fully to raising her son, Manny Jesus Guaydacan, who was the center of her world and her greatest pride. Luz was a parishioner of St. John's Catholic Church in Tucson, where her faith and prayers were a source of comfort and guidance throughout her life.
Known for her hardworking nature and her gentle spirit, Luz was a remarkable woman who balanced her responsibilities with grace. She loved animals and children deeply and made it a point to support others through her generous donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Although shy, she cherished social interactions and valued the conversations and connections she built with those around her. Her days were often spent reading her oraciones, holding fast to her faith and the solace it brought.
Luz’s family remembers her not only as a good mother but as a warm and caring person whose heart reached far beyond her immediate surroundings. She is survived by her beloved son Manny Jesus Guaydacan; her cherished granddaughter, Elizabeth Guaydacan; and many cousins who held her dear. She joins in eternal rest her parents, Jesus Guaydacan Lopez and Refugio Tautimez Vega, and her sisters, Consuelo Mendoza and Amparo Ayon, who passed before her.
A visitation to honor Luz Maria will take place on May 22, 2026, from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m., followed by a Rosary from 4:00 to 4:30 p.m. at Sensible Funerals & Cremation, located at 109 W Grant Road in Tucson, Arizona. Friends, family, and all who knew her are invited to gather and celebrate the life of a woman who touched many hearts through her quiet dedication and love.
Luz Maria Guaydacan’s legacy is one of unwavering devotion to family, faith, and community. Her life was a testament to kindness and resilience, and the memories she leaves behind will continue to inspire and comfort all who had the privilege to know her.
