Lorraine Shineldecker, age 82, passed away on November 7, 2024 at Banner Hospital following a brief illness.
Lorraine was born on October 7, 1942 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to George and Kathryn Marrion. She grew up in Wyoming, Michigan. Lorraine worked and retired from Prince Corporation/Johnson Controls in Holland, Michigan. After retiring, she and her husband moved to Tucson, Arizona to leave behind the winter snow and to enjoy the warm, dry weather.
Lorraine was a devout member of the Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church and volunteered regularly with church activities/events. She was an individual who maintained a spirit of optimism and an attitude of hope throughout her life. Furthermore, she modeled and taught her children valuable lessons in life. Namely, she believed that both beauty and growth can occur in times of adversity and to look for the opportunities that arise in challenging times. Lorraine was a very strong woman who often used humor and lightheartedness in her interactions with others. Her children remember her playful and teasing side. Lorraine was a kind person who did not hold judgement, but rather looked for and highlighted positive attributes in others. She thoroughly enjoyed caring for her pet horses and several different cats throughout her lifetime.
Lorraine was known for her creativity that was evidenced in her arts and crafts. Not only was her home adorned by her talented works, but often full of the aromas from her skillful and delicious cooking and baking. Her homemade apple pie was a favorite of all. Her grandchildren fondly remember partaking in holiday arts and crafts, decorating Christmas cookies, and the large-scale Easter egg hunts Lorraine would entertain at her home in Michigan.
Lorraine is survived by her husband, Charles Shineldecker; her six children, Cindy Shriver, Kathryn Bourdon, Bruce Barber, Cecil Vashaw, Jackie Powell, and Lorie Kiebach; brother, Richard Marrion; fourteen grandchildren; and sixteen great grandchildren.
Memorial Mass will be held on December 6, 2024, at 11:00 am at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 1300 N. Greasewood Road, Tucson, Arizona 85745. Lorraine’s final resting place will be at Grandville Cemetery, 3570 Prairie Street SW, Grandville, Michigan 49418, next to her parents.
