John Steven Hanson, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away on September 24, 2025, in Tucson, Arizona at the age of 70. He was born on May 18, 1955, in Oneonta, New York, and was a proud graduate of Oneonta High School, class of 1973.
After completing high school, John began a fulfilling career in welding. His life journey took a pivotal turn when he relocated to the Tampa, Florida area in 1977, where he met his future wife, Charlene Jones, through mutual friends. Their love story flourished, leading to their marriage on May 8, 1981. Together, they celebrated forty-four years of a loving partnership filled with cherished memories and the joys of raising their family.
John was a great father to his four children: son Chris and his wife Carol Ann, daughter Jennifer and her husband Anthony, daughter Lori and her husband Mark, as well as a devoted grandfather to seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He took immense pride in his family, and his strong bonds with them were evident to all who knew him.
As a twin, John's connection with his brother Peter was profound, and he also left behind many nieces and nephews who held him dear in their hearts. He was known to be an extroverted individual who loved meeting and talking to people, making friends with ease.
John's passions extended beyond family; he was an audiophile and had a remarkable love for music, especially rock. He could often be found attending concerts, visiting garage sales, and collecting records, watches, and jewelry. His long hair, a source of pride, was just one of the many elements of his vibrant personality.
A person of deep faith, John believed in Jesus Christ, which guided him throughout his life. In 2010, he and Charlene moved to Arizona, where he spent five years working in the mining industry in Morenci.
John is preceded in death by his parents, Vernon Hanson and Marjorie Secord, his son Michael Hanson, and his brother Bill Hanson. Although he is no longer with us, his spirit and memories will forever remain alive in the hearts of his loving family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in Florida, where those who knew and loved John will have the opportunity to honor his remarkable life and legacy.
