Irmgard Katharina Czorny was born in East Germany in1934. She was a child during WWII, fleeing to the West with her Mother, Alma, when she was only eleven years old.
She later married Jose Antonio Sanchez, U.S. Army, stationed in Stuttgart and moved back to the United States when his tour was over. Irmgard became fluent in English and eventually earned her US citizenship as they raised five children together.
She loved to work out in the gym and ran 10k races. She was a world traveler and loved to camp. She could strike up a conversation with anyone and intrigued children with her thick German accent.
Living most of her life in Maryland, she moved to Arizona in 2023 with her youngest daughter and son-in-law, Erika and Rodney. There she embraced the mountains while walking in her neighborhood.
Since most people had a hard time saying her name, everyone called her "Oma," or "Irmi." She leaves behind 5 children, Mike, Joe, Anna, Tony and Erika, too many grand children to count, along with a growing number of great grandchildren....
Her final residence was Starfish Homes on OST, where everyone embraced her sassy personality and loved her dearly.
She died peacefully on August 9, 2026. Many thanks to the ICU nurses at Northwest Houghton, who took amazing care of her in her final days.
You will be dearly missed, Oma....
