Listen to Obituary

Gail Marie Roberts, age 79, of Tucson, Arizona, passed away peacefully at Tucson Medical Center after a brief hospitalization, with one of her beloved brothers by her side.

Gail was born on May 22, 1947, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Charles and Beatrice Roberts. She graduated from John Marshall High School in Milwaukee in 1965 and went on to build a distinguished and successful career with the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Beginning her career in Oxford, Wisconsin, she later relocated to Tucson in 1983 with her son, Dan. Throughout her years of service, Gail earned numerous awards and commendations in recognition of her outstanding dedication and leadership.

More than her professional accomplishments, Gail will be remembered for the kindness, generosity, and compassion that defined her life. She possessed an open heart and was always ready to help others in times of need. Her commitment to serving her community was evident through her involvement with many charitable and civic organizations, including Youth On Their Own, Aviva, St. Francis de Sales Craft Group, the Federal Prison Retirees Association, where she proudly served as secretary, the Brigade of Mask Makers during the COVID-19 pandemic, and various local hospital support groups.

A gifted seamstress throughout her adult life, Gail's creativity and talent touched countless lives. She lovingly crafted wedding gowns, prom dresses, beautiful apparel, quilts, and home décor pieces. Among family and friends, she earned the affectionate title of the sewing world's "King Pin," a testament to both her remarkable skill and her passion for her craft.

Gail was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Beatrice Roberts; her twin brother, Gary; her beloved son, Dan Koenig; and her nephew, Andrew. She is survived by her sister, Charlene Koenig of California; her brothers, Brian Roberts and his wife, Angie, Mark Roberts of Amherst, Wisconsin, Paul Roberts of Waunakee, Wisconsin, and John Roberts of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin; along with many cherished nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Gail's warmth, generosity, humor, and creativity enriched the lives of everyone who knew her. She will be deeply missed by her family, her many friends, and especially by her fellow crafters. In true Gail fashion, she would surely appreciate being remembered by her favorite crafting motto:"She who dies with the largest stash wins!"
