Evangelina Rodriquez Barrios, lovingly known as “Nana Eva,” passed away on June 8, 2026, at the age of 83.
Born on February 24, 1943, in Bisbee, Arizona, Eva lived a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to her family. She was a beloved mother, sister, tia, grandmother, and friend whose warmth and kindness touched everyone who knew her. Family was the center of her world, and she dedicated her life to caring for and supporting those she loved.
Affectionately known as “Dee,” to her 13 siblings, Eva enjoyed spending her days searching for treasures at yard sales, finding special items that brought joy and character to her home. Her greatest happiness, however, came from being surrounded by her large and lively family. She especially cherished visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought endless joy to her life.
Her home was a gathering place filled with love, laughter, and treasured traditions. Weekly Taco Tuesdays brought family together around the table, while the sounds of children playing and loved ones visiting created memories that will be cherished forever.
Eva will be remembered for her generous heart, infectious laughter, wise advice, and unconditional love. Her presence made every gathering brighter, and her legacy lives on in the family she loved so deeply.
Eva is survived by her children Carol Catalan, Rudy Altamirano (Naomi), seven grandchildren Breana (Jerry), Clarissa (Adam), Isaiah (Maricela), Adam, Andres, Rudy Jr, and Ricky (Reina). She had fourteen great grandchildren Jerry, Adelina, Camila, Rylee, Lariyanna, Alisyanna, Aaliyah, Eliyanna, Zyanna, Liam, Rosalia, Xavier, Noah and Alani.
She was preceded in death by husband Javier Barrios, daughter Michelle Carrizosa, parents Frank and Susana Rodriquez, sister Emily Rodriquez, son-in-law Alfred Catalan and Tata Rudy Altamirano, Sr.
A viewing will be held from 4:00 - 7:00 PM, Thursday, June 18, 2026 with a rosary at 5:30 PM at Sensible Funerals and Cremation, 109 W. Grant Rd., Tucson, Arizona 85705.
A Holy Mass will be held on Friday, June 26, 2026 at 10:00 AM at Santa Cruz Catholic Church, 1220 S. 6th Ave., Tucson, Arizona 85713. Interment to follow at Holy Hope Catholic Cemetery, 3555 N. Oracle Rd., 85705.
While our hearts are saddened by her passing, we take comfort in the countless memories she leaves behind and the love she shared so freely. Nana Eva’s spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered. ❤️
