David Paul Mays, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, was born in Long Beach, California, on May 13, 1955. He would go on to leave this world on December 20, 2025, in Tucson, Arizona, leaving behind a legacy rich with love and camaraderie.
A proud graduate of Lakewood High School, Class of 1974, David embraced life with a vibrant spirit that was reflected in his many passions. Often lovingly referred to as "Thunder" and "Grouchie Grandpa," his personality endeared him to those who had the privilege to know him. David's heart resonated deeply with the joys of riding his Harley motorcycle, boating, engaging in karate, and camping under the vast, starry skies. His great affection for his dogs and the companionship they provided highlighted the warmth he carried within him, and his unwavering commitment to Bikers Against Child Abuse (BACA) showcased his desire to protect and uplift the most vulnerable members of society.
David's most profound connections were with the family he adored wholeheartedly. He shared a remarkable journey of love and partnership for 49 years with his beloved wife, Pam. Together, they brought two daughters, Tiffany and Danielle, into the world, each a source of pride and joy. The family continued to flourish, blessed with the laughter and exuberance of three grandchildren—Alyssa, Dylan, and Daphnie—whose lives were illuminated by their grandfather's presence and antics.
He also leaves behind a cherished brother, Richard, and a devoted big sister, Christina, whose bonds formed a foundation of support and love throughout the years. The love for his six dogs, constant companions throughout his life, and his BACA family only further cemented his legacy of kindness and loyalty.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Hollis B. Mays and Frances M. Harris, whose love for David shaped the man he became.
As we celebrate the life of David Paul Mays, we remember a soul whose laughter echoed and whose spirit inspired. His passions, his dedication to family, and his unwavering commitment to helping others will continue to resonate in the hearts of those he touched. In his memory, may we carry forward his zest for life, his compassion for others, and the joy that only a lovingly referred to "Grouchie Grandpa" could impart.
