Arnold Adams, Sr. peacefully passed away on September 14, 2024 just shy of his 82nd birthday on October 8.
Arnold grew up on the island of North Haven, Maine and was the son of Barbara Achorn Adams and Forrest Clifford Adams. The second of four children, Arnold grew up with a love of basketball, baseball and having fun with his friends on the island. Arnold was a natural athlete and shared his passion for sports with his family, coaching little league baseball, playing basketball growing up and later in men’s leagues. Running became a passion for him in the late 1970’s and he ran many marathons and road races throughout Maine.
Growing up he worked with his father as a carpenter and eventually had his own business building many beautiful homes on North Haven, including a home he built for his family. Arnold was also a lobsterman for many years and enjoyed clamming and taking his kids mackerel fishing and hunting.
Arnold left Maine for the warmer weather of Sarasota, Florida after the kids all graduated from high school. In Sarasota, Arnold worked for many years doing intricate finish carpentry in fine homes in the Sarasota and Longboat Key area. Sarasota was a great decision for Arnold and he enjoyed over 30 happy years there.
Arnold loved to tell stories and laugh with friends and family. He was a lifelong Boston Celtics and Red Sox fan and loved to tell his Florida friends about his life on the island. He loved animals and had many beloved cats and dogs over the years.
Arnold is survived by his oldest son Arnold, Jr. and his two sons, Zack and Jesse and step daughter, Lindsy, his daughter, Angela and husband Sherwood Hamill and youngest son, Alan and his children Easton and Adriana and their mother Kelly Adams, his brother, Gerald and his wife Diane, his sister, Belinda, great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends including his friend, Steve Cook whom he worked with for many years in Sarasota and was a dear friend to the end.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Barbara and Forrest Adams and his beloved older brother, Ted Adams.
