Allen Vern Hamelin, a devoted and talented photographer, caring brother, and faithful friend, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2026, in Tucson, Arizona. Born on March 24, 1937, in Burlington, Vermont, Allen lived a life marked by dedication, generosity, and a passion for his craft and loved ones.
Allen graduated from Burlington High School in 1955 and promptly joined the United States Navy. He proudly served as a Navy Second Class aboard the CVA59 Aircraft Carrier USS Forrestal, the first supercarrier, where he began to hone the photography skills that would define much of his later career. Following his military service, Allen became Senior Lead Photographer at WCAX TV in Burlington, a position he held with distinction for 30 years. His work behind the lens captured countless moments of life and history, illustrating his exceptional talent and commitment.
Known affectionately as "Big Bro," Allen was the best big brother anyone could ask for. His devotion to his "Little Bro" was legendary; he was always ready to lend a hand and offer support, embodying a spirit of caring, generosity, and faithfulness in every aspect of his life. After retiring from his long-standing career, he moved to Tucson to be closer to his brother Jerry and sister-in-law Linda, cherishing the bonds of family and friendship.
Allen was a man of diverse interests and talents beyond his professional achievements. An avid reader and dedicated woodworker, he pursued his hobbies with the same passion he applied to photography. Those who knew him admired his gentle nature and unassuming generosity, qualities that endeared him to many.
Allen is survived by his dear brother, Jerry Hamelin and sister-in-law Linda; his son-in-law Kevin Matz; and numerous nieces and nephews who remember him fondly. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Mitchell and Adrienne Hamelin, and his daughter Stacy Matz.
A Memorial Service to honor Allen’s life will be held on May 31, 2026, from 2:00 to 3:00 PM at Sensible Funerals & Cremation, located at 109 W Grant Road, Tucson, AZ 85705.
