Adele Woodard

Adele Woodard, née Peterson, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2026, in her beloved hometown of Tucson, Arizona, the city where her life’s journey began on May 9, 1946. Her eighty years were profoundly shaped by the warmth of family, the pursuit of knowledge, and an unwavering devotion to her community and causes.

A proud daughter of Tucson, Adele was born to Fred Peterson and Clara Martin, both of whom preceded her in death and whom she cherished deeply. Her formative years were marked by curiosity and achievement. After excelling at Pueblo High School, Adele continued her pursuit of education at Pima Community College, where she earned her Associate of Arts degree. With both wisdom and humility, she carried her love of learning throughout her life—a value she passed down to those fortunate enough to know her.

Adele’s love for her family was boundless and unceasing. She is lovingly survived by her daughter, Whitni Woodard, and her son, John Douglas; six grandkids and two great grandkids. Their lives have been enriched by her steady encouragement, her thoughtful counsel, and the deep reservoir of strength and kindness that defined her spirit. Adele’s siblings—her brothers Charles "Charlie" Peterson and Fredie Hawkins, and her sister Margie Swint—carry her memory forward, honoring the enduring bonds of kinship. She is also reunited in peace with her siblings Mary Young, Rena Robinson, and James Peterson, whose memories she treasured throughout her days.

An avid viewer of CNN with steadfast interest in politics and journalism, and a keen follower of current events, Adele maintained a sharp and insightful awareness of the world around her.
